  • Answer the question in such a manner that it highlights your advantage to be a suitable candidate for the job you’re interviewing for.

  • Do your research about the company and find out what strengths and weaknesses they are looking for in the candidate. Include these in your answer.

  • Keep in mind to not present your life story as the answer to this question. Nobody is interested in listening to that.

Why should we hire you?

This is another incredibly common interview question and it gives you an opportunity to stand out from the rest of the crowd. This question gives you a chance to show how you can help the company with your skill set and experience.

  • Be specific and do not beat around the bush.

  • Highlight your strengths and weaknesses.

  • Link your strengths and weaknesses to the requirements of the job and showcase how they’ll add value.

What is your greatest strength?

This is a fairly straight forward question. Here you need to highlight a strength that is valuable to the company.

  • Do your research about the company and find out what specific strength they put a lot of value into. This particular strength should be your answer.

  • Don’t name a strength that it irrelevant to the job at hand.

What is your greatest weakness?

This is a classic question that freaks people out but really shouldn’t.

  • Show that you are aware of your weakness and what steps you have taken till now to overcome it.

  • Show that you are self-aware and hold the ability to improve yourself.

  • Do not highlight a weakness that is the core competency of the job.

Why do you want to work for us?

The hiring manager wants to know your motivations by asking this question. You need to show him that you want to be a part of the family and this job is beyond a means of getting money for you. You need to show him that you are passionate about the job.

  • Do your homework and talk about the specific things that you like in the company.

  • Highlight how your strengths align with the job position and the company culture.

Why did you leave your last job?

This question makes most of the job seekers nervous but it isn’t something that can’t be tackled with.

  • If you left the previous job involuntarily, specify a characteristic that the current company has, which has attracted you immensely.

  • If you were fired from the previous job explain the situation and own it. Explain the interviewer what all you learned from the situation.

What is your greatest accomplishment?

This question is somewhat similar to the question “what is your greatest strength?” and can be answered in the same lines.

  • Talk about an accomplishment that exhibits how you will be a perfect fit for the company and the position you’re interviewing for.

  • Try and show some genuine passion when you’re answering this question.

Describe a difficult work situation and what you did to overcome it?

Here again you need to highlight your specific skill-set and how it will be helpful in the current job.

  • Pick an example that gives foresight into you tackling a situation that might arise at the company you’re interviewing for.

  • Be specific and concise.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Here you need to show that you’re an ambitious person but you do not want to show that you have your head in the clouds and are focussed on the current job.

  • Demonstrate your level of commitment for the position you’re being interviewed for.

  • Stress your interest in a long-term career at the company.

Do you have any questions for me?

Most of the job seekers answer this question with a straight no. That is a terrible response! This question is an opportunity for you to stand out from the rest of the crowd and showcase your passion for the job and the organization you’re interviewing for.

  • Turn the tables and ask the interviewer a few questions.
